Alumna and friends ‘celebrated’ on new UMass web site

As UMass Amherst refines its fund-raising message to alumni and friends of the university, a band alumna and a husband-wife team of band fans are featured.

Alumna Dotty Hayes ’72 ’76G says, “The band gave me a focal point; it became my little village. Everything I did at UMass emanated from that.”

Stan ’55 and Lynn Handman are such die-hard fans, they have made a bequest intention to the Minuteman Band. Says Stan of this gesture, “If you have an appreciation for the band or anything else at UMass Amherst, it deserves your support. It’s a world-class institution.”

The “Giving to UMass Amherst” web site was designed and developed by band alumnus Andy Whalen ’07. He works in the Advancement Communications office on campus.
